The BBC will offer daily programmes to offer parents and children with school work at home during the lockdown.  Starting on 20 April, videos, quizzes, podcasts and articles will appear on BBC Bitesize Daily via the BBC iPLayer, red button, BBC Four and BBC Sounds.  Children's lessons will feature presenters including Oti Mabuse, Katie Thistleton and Karim Zeroual.  BBC Director General, Tony Hall, has called it "the biggest education effort the BBC has ever undertaken."

Message from Miss Grogan regarding RE  - The lessons below have been produced by the editor of RE Today. He has some fantastic ideas and some great activities to engage children with religious studies. As a school, we normally follow the Derbyshire Syllabus, however these lessons have been produced for home learning and look fantastic.

It would be great to see and share what you have done with these activities.

You could send photos via Class Dojo to your normal R.E teacher: Y3 - Miss van Gemeren, Y4 - Mrs Chilvers, Y5 - Mrs Chilvers or Mrs Johal, Y6 – Miss van Gemeren or you could send them to Miss Grogan (our RE Lead).

Art

As Mrs Genders' class knows, she is very passionate about teaching art as she feels it has many benefits:
• Art promotes creativity.
• Art promotes confidence.
• Art promotes problem solving skills.
• Art promotes patience and determination.
• Art promotes accountability.
• Art promotes team work.
One activity that we were planning to do during Arts Week was to research the work of a famous artist and then have a go at reproducing a piece of artwork in the style of that artist. There are some fantastic resources out there to support this, but I have also attached a supporting document below. If your child isn’t confident at art maybe choose an abstract artist such as Kandinsky.  For more ideas, click here.

Also it might be worth checking out one of the many virtual tours (for art galleries and museums) that are available online, this may give you some further inspiration! Virtual tours:
The Louvre
Best for: Kids obsessed with ancient Egypt or medieval architecture
The British Museum
Best for: Kids ready to explore a more interactive experience
The Natural History museum
Best for: Kids ready to explore a more interactive experience
In the past I have seen some amazing pieces of art produced by children who have been inspired by many different artists. If all you have is a pencil and paper, then that is all you need!

Pete McKee's Cartoon Workshop for Beginners!
As many of you may now have kids at home for the time being, Pete will be posting cartoon workshop lessons every Wednesday starting tomorrow, for the next few weeks. As he has done similar workshops before, which have always been well-received, we thought this would be a nice way to offer children, and adults too, something fun and creative to help break up the day, keeping young minds active in addition to their school work. Anyone can take part in these videos which will be uploaded to the Pete McKee YouTube channel. All you’ll need is a few pieces of paper, or whatever’s lying around, card, scrap paper etc., and some pencils or pens. The videos will be posted at 12pm tomorrow for whoever is interested!
