 Values and Ethos

At Dronfield Junior School, we are committed to supporting every aspect of a child’s development including their health, safety and achievement. We strive to ensure our children are happy and as they grow, we encourage them to realise their potential and prepare, and equip, them to lead safe, happy, healthy and successful lives in modern British society.

Our children experience a stimulating and varied curriculum, supported by a wide range of extra-curricular activities. The uniqueness of each individual child is valued, nurtured and celebrated through the strong partnership of children, parents, staff and governors.

Our priority is to provide high quality, challenging teaching and learning whilst at the same time providing rich and enjoyable learning experiences for all our children, in order that they may each pursue success in the classroom, on the sports field and in every other aspect of school life.  We want every child to be successful; to reach for success from the first day they join us in Year 3 and continuing throughout their time with us, thus building the foundations for a love of learning which we hope will never leave them.  We believe happy, confident children make the most of the learning process and remain motivated to learn throughout their lives.

Our core values of: courtesy, respect, honesty, good manners and consideration for others, together with self-discipline, we feel are important aspects of a child’s education.  We believe these values guide our whole school community from day to day in our learning, thinking and decision making.  The impact of these values can be seen in the daily life of our school.

At Dronfield Junior School, we aim to:

  • Help children develop to their full potential with lively enquiring minds, the ability to question and discuss rationally, and to apply themselves to tasks and physical skills.
  • Foster a warm and friendly atmosphere within a caring school community in which a child’s self-esteem and respect for others can develop.
  • Provide a broad, balanced curriculum which is appropriate and matched to the development level and needs of individual children, giving due regard to the fundamental importance of maths and language.
  • Help children to acquire knowledge and skills, encouraging them to take pride in their achievements.
  • Promote the need for good conduct and discipline.
  • Promote respect for religious and moral values, and tolerance of other races, religions and ways of life, and to understand the world in which we live, and the interdependence of individuals, groups and nations.
  • Provide all children with equal opportunities, rights and responsibilities regardless of race, gender, background, ability or disability.
  • Recognise and promote the partnership between children, parents and school in the education of our pupils.
  • Recognise and promote the role of the school within the community, and to encourage our children to care about, and take responsibility for, our environment both locally and globally.
