Our School Day, Home-School Agreement and ClassDojo
Our School Day
Our school day is as follows:
Morning School 9.00am – 12 noon
Afternoon School 1.05pm – 3.30pm
Pupils should not normally arrive at school until 8.50am at the earliest; the bell goes at 9am. A member of staff (usually, Mrs N Thomson, the Headteacher) will be on duty at the main school gate from 8.50am and other members of staff will be on duty inside the school grounds.
We have a Lower School (Y3s and Y4s) break time at 10.25am - 10.40am and an Upper School break time at 10.45am - 11.00am.
Our lunch time break is 12.00pm - 1.05pm.
Our total time in a school week is 32.5 hours.
Home-School Agreement
We recognise the benefits of a strong home-school partnership for each of our pupils. We have written our home-school agreement to support us in building that powerful relationship.
ClassDojo
ClassDojo is an online learning platform run by an educational technology company. It allows us as a school to connect to parents/carers through communication features, such as a feed for photos and videos from the school day and messaging that can be translated into more than 35 languages. Classes can be shared with other staff members in school, including school leaders, so that learning can be shared and celebrated.
The basic ClassDojo app is free for parents and teachers to download and use. With a basic ClassDojo parent account, parents have access to features, which include:
- Sending and receiving messages
- Viewing Class Story, School Story, and Portfolio content
- The ability to award 3 home points per week
- The ability to view your child's Dojo report for the previous two weeks
- Limited access to ClassDojo Discover Content
ClassDojo has a Premium subscription called ClassDojo Plus, we do NOT encourage parents to purchase this and you are under no obligation to do so. All features needed to communicate with teachers and schools are free.
School Story
School Story is where we post our newsletters, celebratory school news, updates, and reminders. Staff and parents/carers are not able to comment on posts but can use the 'like' button.
Class Story
Class Story is where individual class teachers share photos, videos, activities, and files to share, support and celebrate learning in their class. Teachers will also use this page to send reminders. Staff and parents/carers are not able to comment on posts but can use the 'like' button.
Portfolios
This is an individual area for your child. Children can share their work or a photo or video of something they have done, or are proud of. In the past we have had photographs of children raising money for charities through cake sales, sports (such as gymnastic, football or athletic events) or ‘muddy’ races etc. Teachers can view and approve work on portfolios and leave positive feedback in the form of a like and/or comment.
Messages
Messaging allows us to communicate with every family in our school, including sending letters and celebration messages. Messaging is also a way to connect directly with your child's class teacher.
At Dronfield Junior School, we are committed to ensuring the wellbeing of all our staff: we have set quiet hours to remind parents that we are unavailable outside of the school day.
